About Soak
Soak is an artisan home, bath and body company based in Bloomington, Indiana. I am a scientist by training and have a PhD in Genetics where I worked in cancer research. After moving across the country, I transitioned out of the world of scientific research. But, after about a year, I found that I missed the bench science and the thinking that came with it.
I found soap making in 2018. The process of formulating a soap recipe gave me an opportunity to stretch those old 'science' brain muscles, while also giving me a creative outlet. One of my favorite things about being a soaper is diving into the science. The chemistry of the reactions that happen, the interactions that happen between the soap and our bodies, and everything else that comes with making 'good' soap. It is always interesting to find those ‘wives-tales’ have grounding in scientific fact.
My creativity and artistic sense is constantly expanding, and I strive to continue to learn everyday, but trust that each soap that you find on this site has been designed by someone with over two decades of experience in scientific labs.
All of the cold process soaps are made-from-scratch and use palm-, phthalate-, and cruelty-free, sustainably sourced ingredients including luxurious oils and butters, clay, herbs, and other natural additives.
